To the Editor:
I used to wonder if there were any good politicians. But then I got involved in the fight to save health care for low-income Mainers, and met Rep. Seth Berry, who is running for his fourth term in the Legislature.
The Democratic lead on the tax committee, Rep. Berry impressed me with his intelligent and well-researched analysis of the budget crisis and his plan to correct the problem by changing the tax code to ensure Maine’s wealthiest shoulder their fair share.
He has been a leading voice against the governor’s tax-cutting agenda, which largely serves the wealthiest while throwing our most vulnerable under the bus.
As the owner of a small business and Maine’s 2012 Social Worker of the Year, I urge the people of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Richmond to re-elect Rep. Berry so he can continue to fight for people like you and me.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
