The Amtrak Downeaster will make its inaugural run from Portland to Brunswick on Thursday. Two VIPS will ride the passenger train: U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe and former Gov. Angus King, the frontrunner to replace her. 

Will Snowe and King ride together? 

A spokeswoman for the King campaign said she doesn’t think so. However, it seems inevitable that their paths will cross at some point.

Snowe and King are scheduled to board the Downeaster at the Portland Transportation Center at 12:02. Snowe released a statement on Wednesday announcing that she will make remarks in Freeport and Brunswick. King has not yet said if he’ll make any speeches.

Throughout his campaign King has often professed his respect for Snowe. King was highly complimentary of Snowe when he announced his candidacy in March, blaming a dysfunctional Congress for forcing "an extraordinary woman (Snowe) out of town."

King’s campaign has even used Snowe quotes on its mailers and door hangers. The practice hasn’t sat well with the campaign for Republican candidate Charlie Summers, a spokesman from which argued last week that King was misleading voters into thinking Snowe had endorsed his candidacy when she hadn’t.

Snowe has verbally endorsed Summers, but has withheld giving him financial support due to his unwillingness to endorse her last year.
