Public works

November starts a busy month for South Portland Public Works. The annual parking ban went into effect Nov. 1 and lasts through April 1. Vehicles must be off all city streets every night from midnight to 6 a.m. Curbside leaf collection will take place on Monday, Nov. 12 and 19. Leaves must be placed in biodegradable bags and left curbside no later than 7 a.m. Leaves will be collected by public works, not the city’s waste contractor. Leaves also may be taken to the transfer station at 929 Highland Ave., which will be open Sundays in November from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. On the week of Thanksgiving, rubbish and recycling will be collected on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Eberle exit party

Jane Eberle, the South Portland Democrat who has represented District 123 in the state Legislature since 2004, has made a habit these past eight years of holding monthly coffee talks with constituents. Now, with the election over and her retirement at hand thanks to term limits, Eberle plans one last get-together. The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Ocean House Market, 512 Ocean St. in South Portland. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve all of you, and I would love for you to stop by one last time!” wrote Eberle in a recent public invite. “I will invite the newly elected local legislators so you can say hello to them, too. Let’s ring out the old and bring in the new, together!”
