Another adult has been charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume liquor.
At 1:44 a.m. Sunday, police arrested Desiree S. Tarquinio, 31, of Bath, on charges of furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol and disorderly conduct.
Lt. Stanley Cielinski said a 15-yearold boy and a girl of unspecified age were drinking with Tarquinio in her first-floor apartment. The girl was able to run away as police arrived, and another 15-year-old boy also was present, Cielinski said.
One of the boys was so intoxicated police took him to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for observation.
That boy, who lives in Orr’s Island, was summonsed on a charge of illegal consumption of alcohol by a juvenile.
Tarquinio is free on bail, Cielinski said. The charges are misdemeanors, with maximum sentences of 30 days in jail and a fine, he said. The disorderly conduct charge stems from loudnoise complaints, he said.
Last month, Mid Coast Hospital and Communities Against Substance Abuse conducted a forum on underage drinking at Bath Middle School. The forum was prompted by two incidents in which police were called to parties where youths were illegally consuming alcohol.
In one of them, a 14-year-old Bath youth was hospitalized after falling through a plate glass window at a party where police issued summonses, alleging minors were consuming alcohol. The boy’s stepmother identified him, and the boy who hosted the party at the home of his father, who was away for the weekend.
Lack of supervision, Cielinski said, remains a major problem.
“It’s another case where these young people don’t have the proper supervision from their parents, or from the adults they’re hanging out with,” he said. “We have parents who we’re dealing with who have no problems with their kids staying out all night and no problem with this type of behavior.”
Police had been called earlier in the night to Tarquinio’s residence for a noise complaint but found no evidence of juveniles drinking, Cielinski said. Officers Mike Lever and Garrett Olson returned later for another noise complaint.
“When they knocked on the door, people tried to run out the back door, but the officer was out back and intercepted them and brought them back in,” Cielinski said.
The girl, who police believe had been drinking, had managed to flee just prior to that, Cielinski said.
Cielinski said Tarquinio’s boyfriend and their children were upstairs sleeping while the drinking was allegedly occurring downstairs.
