With the awarding of Gold Balls in football on Saturday, the high school fall sports season came to a close. On Monday, the winter sports season officially began with the opening day of practices.

The rhythmic cadence of basketballs being dribbled could be heard in gyms all over the state. Swimming, hockey, track and wrestling also got started.

At McAuley, the girls’ basketball team began the first of many practices which the Lions hope leads to another state title in March. The Yarmouth boys’ basketball team began defense of its Class B crown.

When late February and early March arrive, we’ll know which teams in all sports were the most successful. Stay tuned.
