NEW ZEALAND OPEN: Australian teenager Jake Higginbottom became the first amateur to win the tournament since Harry Berwick in 1956, closing with a 5-under 67.

COACH DIES: Dave Sexton, who led Chelsea to FA Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup victories in the 1970s, has died. He was 82 and had been suffering from dementia.

SKIING

WORLD CUP: Austria’s Kathrin Zettel won a World Cup slalom, skiing a blazing second run at Aspen, Colo.

• Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway won a super-G, completing a sweep at Lake Louise, Alberta. Svindal also won Saturday’s downhill, making him the first man to win both events at Lake Louise since Bode Miller in 2004.

FOOTBALL

GREY CUP: Running back Chad Kackert, a University of New Hampshire alumnus, had 195 total yards to lead the Toronto Argonauts to a 35-22 victory over the Calgary Stampeders in the 100th Grey Cup at the Rogers Center.

• The Maine Sabers defeated the Southern Maine Raging Bulls in an interleague game at Fitzpatrick Stadium Sunday. Cody Goddard threw a touchdown pass to Anthony Hicks and Chris Kates rushed for two TDs. Henri Mosher kicked a 40-yard field goal for the Bulls and Steve Goodrich converted from 34 yards for the Sabers.

RACING

FORMULA ONE: Fernando Alonso again came up just short of his third Formula One title, finishing second to Jenson Button at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

BOXING

USA BOXING: Chi Wang of the Portland Boxing Club defeated Derek Szalklewicz of Holyoke, Mass., by a second-round TKO in the sub novice lightweight division and was selected as the Outstanding Novice Boxer at the finals of the USA Boxing New England Championships Saturday night at Stevens Avenue Armory.

Other winners from the Portland Boxing Club were Lindsay Kyajohnian, who won a unanimous decision over Melissa Kelly of Somerville, Mass., in the novice women’s welterweight; Danny Pang, who won a 3-2 split decision over Marquis Fowler of Lowell, Mass., in the sub novice featherweight division; and Liz Leddy, who won a unanimous decision over Allie LaVigne of Worcester, Mass., in the open class women’s lightweight division.

Jason Quirk of Scarborough lost a 3-2 split decision to Gerald Schifone of Brockton, Mass., in the open class middleweight division, and John Lopez lost a unanimous decision to Dominic Lessier of Lowell, Mass., in the open class featherweight division.

All winners in the open classes advance to the national championships in Spokane, Wash.
