Time to Play Santa

How can you help? Do you know someone who needs help? If you would like to help at Christmas time, call Madeline Roberts (Windham Food Pantry) at 892-1931. The Toy Workshop is Dec. 15 – not much time left. Want to adopt a family? Call Madeline. Ron Eby of Windham Automotive is holding a toy drive again this year and gifts or gift cards (especially ideal for teens) can be dropped off at Ron’s or the Food Pantry. Check with Madeline for details and together let’s make sure all Windham children enjoy the holidays this year.

Christmas Open House

A Christmas Open House for the Animals will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, 279 River Road, South Windham. Hands-on activities for kids will be offered as well as sleigh rides, refreshments and raffles. Donated Christmas trees will be for sale and 100 gallons of heating oil donated by Giroux Energy will be raffled. Visit the website, www.msspa.org for more information.

Yard Sale

Pinea No. 71 Rebekah Lodge of Windham will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Odd Fellows Lodge, Route 302. Light refreshments available. Everything must go – reasonable prices. For more information call Josie at 892-6686 or Elsie at 893-1430.

Disney on Display

A colorful exhibit of Disney movie mugs from the collection of Jen Harmon of Windham is on display at the Windham Public Library, now through Jan. 31. You can find Steamboat Willie (Mickey Mouse) and Snow White are in amongst mugs with The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Over 40 colorful mugs are on display (although Jen has many more in her collection), complete with their original boxes. Stop by the library for a look at these fun collectibles. Bean supper

An all-you-can-eat baked bean supper will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at White Rock Community Club on Wilson Road, off Route 127. The menu includes beans, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, biscuits, salads and homemade desserts. Adults $7, kids $3.

Craft Fair

On Saturday, Dec. 8, a craft fair will be held at Highland Lake Grange from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The grange is at the corner of Route 302 and Hardy Road. Featured will be baked goods, handcrafted items, jewelry, pottery, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, baby items, Paparazzi items, jams, pickles, salsa and hot sausage, and more.

Teens and Tweens

TNT Club (for Tweens ‘n Teens!) meets after school, 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, at Windham Public Library. This is a free program for ages 10-18. Activities include talking about books we’ve read, audios we’ve listened to and activities including games, crafts or baking – and munching on a snack. This month’s topic is Award Winning Books. Church Fair

On Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, corner of River Road and Windham Center Road, will hold its annual holiday fair. Featured items include wreaths, crafts, ornaments, silent auction, jewelry, linens, knitted items, baked goods, candy, cookie walk, children’s activities and a delicious luncheon. There will also be a raffle for a Google Nexus 16GB Tablet.

Blood Pressure Clinic

A free blood pressure clinic will be open to the public at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Lakes Region Senior Center, 40 Acorn St., Little Falls School, Gorham.

American Legion meets

American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 Post monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Windham Veteran’s Center. There will be a social/refreshments at 5 p.m. with business meeting at 6 p.m.. The Post membership drive continues. Bring along a veteran to the meeting.

WHS Alumni Meeting

Windham High School Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, in the Guidance Office Conference room at the high school to conduct association business including the 2013 banquet. This organization is more than 100 years old and includes those who have attended Windham High School. All WHS alumni who would like to be part of the committee making plans are welcome to attend.

Senior Center

Lakes Region Senior Center, 40 Acorn St., Little Falls School, Gorham, is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and welcomes all Lakes Region senior citizens. This is a drop-in center and members can join in many daily activities including cribbage, Pickleball, a weight loss encouragement group, Bingo (Thursdays at 10 a.m.) and other games.

Senior Assistance

On Tuesdays, Dec. 4 and 18, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Medicare seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Tuesday through Dec. 11. Counseling on tax and rent rebate, food stamps, and fuel assistance can be arranged. Please call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for the upcoming seminars or to make one-on-one appointments with Medicare Advocates at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Further opportunities for these services will continue at the same times and location on first and third Tuesdays of the month in 2013. Veterans Health Services

Combat veteran and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Clifford Trott from Portland Vet Center, is available at Windham Veterans Center on the first and third Wednesdays for appointments with veterans seeking information and/or help. Call 780-3584 to make an appointment for the next available date. These sessions are one-on-one and strictly confidential. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. The next date will be Dec. 5.

Help for Veterans, Dependents

Veterans Service Officer Phyllis D’Orsay will be at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. until noon, to assist veterans, widows of veterans and dependents with questions about benefits and other information. If you have questions of a military nature, stop in and get some answers. No appointment is needed.
