Giving thanks
All of Windham should give thanks to the excellent representatives of the town who work in the town offices.
During the mad rush before the last election, I had a chance to see first-hand how it really is on the other side of that long counter in the Town Clerk’s office. I was offered a part-time job working on absentee voting, folding ballots, stuffing envelopes and answering the phone – sounds pretty easy and it was. Meanwhile, the real workers were registering voters and explaining the ballots and helping people with all manner of town-clerk-related tasks (licenses, passports, endless questions). One day I kept a little running tally of incoming phone calls – they averaged eight per minute. Imagine eight hours worth! I have no idea how the regular crew could have answered those calls and waited on the lines of people waiting to vote.
Shortly before election, perhaps a day before, I counted 23 people in line at one time, all the voting booths were filled and the clerks and helpers from adjacent departments were cheerful, polite and moving around very quickly! Thankfully, that was the day retired clerk Rita Bernier brought a large plate of fudge! So next time someone speaks (or writes) disparagingly about our town employees, it had better not be within my space! I’d be willing to bet this example of excellent employees is repeated in every department. We’re a lucky town!

Thank you
The Windham Food Pantry would like to thank the Sherri Huff and all members of the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce for their remarkable undertaking of the Community Coin Challenge to help raise money for food pantries in the Lakes Region area.
Their dedication to this cause from the original concept to the fruition of the project was done in the spirit of helping less fortunate families in the area. Being one of the beneficiary food pantries, the money donated will be used to make certain we provide Windham families with nutritious healthy food.
Again, kudos to all the chamber members, local businesses and area vendors who worked tirelessly to provide not only money for the pantry’s but also an Octoberfest event filled with fun for families to enjoy as well as many delectable foods and even helicopter rides.
