DURHAM —A Lewiston man died Friday afternoon when he rolled his car at the intersection of Soper Road and Route 125/Pinkham Brook Road.
State Police today said that Barry Morrison, 53 of 87 Pine Street, was driving too fast along Soper Road toward Route 125 when he lost control of his 2004 Mitsubushi. The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m., and tied up traffic at the crossroads between both routes which connect Durham, Lisbon, Freeport and Brunswick.
Police said the car was traveling west when it left the roadway, rolled over several times and pinned Morrison beneath it.
Durham Fire Chief William St. Michel said Morrison was wearing his seat belt and was not ejected from the vehicle. However, the crash was so violent, he ended up pinned underneath the driver’s door when the vehicle finally came to rest on its side nearly 100 feet from Soper Road, about 10 feet off the side of Route 125.
The accident remains under investigation by the Maine State Police, pending results of a blood toxicology test.
