WINSLOW — Rachel Moroney completed Brunswick’s comeback from a two-goal deficit as the Dragons picked up a 3-2 girls high school ice hockey victory over Winslow on Wednesday at Sukee Arena.
Brennah O’Connell and Paige Veilleux staked Winslow (1-3) to a 2-0 lead just 3:15 into the game.
But, Moroney scored on the power play at 7:03 of the second period, with an assist from Gillian Ford, to cut the lead in half. Moroney scored again, this time with 1:40 remaining in the middle frame. Jordan Van Savage picked up a helper on the tying goal.
Brunswick, which improved to 1-3 and hosts St. Dom’s on Monday (4:15 p.m.), outshot Winslow 13-3 in the third period, but Black Raiders goaltender Jessica Cain made all the stops to finish with 38 saves.
In overtime, Moroney scored off an assist from Maddie Wilkes to give the Dragons their first win. Goaltender Claire Mendes had 19 saves in the victory.
“The team held strong after giving up two quick goals in the first,” said Brunswick coach Bill Bodwell. “I was proud of the way they came back to earn an important win.”
