PORTLAND — The Cardiology Department at Martin’s Point Portland Health Care Center recently was granted a three-year term of accreditation in echocardiography in the area of adult transthoracic and adult stress by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.

According to a news release, only a handful of laboratories in Maine have received this designation. The accreditation process involves a panel’s review of the echocardiography lab’s operational and technical components including detailed case study reviews. IAC accreditation is only granted to those facilities that provide quality patient care, in compliance with national standards.

Reflecting on the news, Dr. Peter Shaw, cardiologist at the Portland Health Care Center, said, “We have a superb team of skilled professionals providing the highest level of quality outpatient cardiac care to our patients. I am very proud of the wonderful work we do every day.”
