BATH — Roy Lawrence Reed Jr., 78, of Bath, passed away at his home on Monday, December 10th, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 14th, 1934 the son of Roy Sr. and Albina Zuzack Reed.

Roy grew up in Columbia, Missouri graduating from Hickman High School class of 1952. He went on to further his education and graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Roy began working for Schlumberger Well Surveying Corp in Cushing, OK in March of 1956 a few shorts months later he joined the United States Air Force. December of 1956 he was transferred to Brunswick Navel Air Station and Maine became his home. In May of 1958 he met Sally Footer, on a blind date, and they were married on October 25th, at St. Mary’s Church. On April 1959 Roy was transferred to Newfoundland (St. Johns) Pepperal AFB, were he completed his active duty until 1960 moving back to Oklahoma.

Roy worked for Schulmgerg Well Surveying Corp in Ardmore, OK and transferred to Enid Ok until 1962 when the family moved to New York and Roy was offered a job working for DuPont as an Electrical Engineer. In 1965 the family moved back home to Maine and Roy was employed at Bath Iron Works, until retiring as Vice President of Marketing in 1990.

Roy was a loyal man who always put his family first. He looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren; he made sure he was at every sporting event to root them on. In his spare time he enjoyed being at his camp on Damariscotta Lake, where he built his camp with his own hands. Roy was a saint of a man who always was helping a friend or family member to reach their goals. He had a smile that could light up a room; he will be missed by all those that loved him.

Roy was a dedicated member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Rotary Club and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

He is survived by his 2 children, Matthew Reed of Georgetown and Melissa Reed of East Brunswick; 5 brothers, John Reed and his wife Monique of Lexington, MA, Robert Reed and his wife Darlene of Jeff City, MO, Joseph Reed and his wife Kathy of Plainfield, IL, Chris Reed and his wife Maryann of Grandview, MO and Mike Reed and his wife Ann of Mulberry, FL; 5 grandchildren, Emily Brown and her husband Scott of Centerville, MA, Abby Leavitt of Bath, Ashleigh Reed of Georgetown, Hunter Reed of Georgetown, and Isabel Hilt of East Brunswick; 4 great grandchildren, Chris, Sadie and Cadenze Johnson of Bath and Sophie Brown of Centerville MA; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 14th from 4:00 – 6:00pm at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St, Bath. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 15th at 12:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln Street, Bath.
