SKOWHEGAN — The Mt. Ararat High School girls basketball team ran its early season record to 4-0 with a 58-46 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Skowhegan on Tuesday.

The Eagles, who are scheduled to visit Brunswick on Friday, trailed 13-10 after one quarter, went up 29-25 at the half and 45-33 after three quarters.

Mallory Nelson led the way with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Kristi Willey had 14 points, Caitlin LaFountain 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Chelsea Crawford six points.

The Eagles were 20 of 44 from the floor and 13 of 20 from the line, and the 1-3 Indians were 18 of 44 from the floor and six of 13 from the line.

Cheyenne Mallory had 12 points in the loss and Morgan Buker 10.

MORSE 55

In KVAC Class B action Tuesday in Bath, Morse evened its record at 2-2 with a win over Lincoln Academy.

The Shipbuilders are scheduled to host Leavitt on Thursday.

Signe Ostergaard paced the win with 18 points, while Sadia Crosby had 14 and Megan Hixon and Hannah Rossetti seven each.

Morse led 7-6 after one quarter, trailed 19-18 at the half and went up 32-31 after three quarters.

“It wasn’t pretty but the girls were able to pull it out,” said Morse coach Becky Roak. “It was 32-31 at the start of the fourth and we were able to win it at the free-throw line, making 13 of 20 in the fourth. Lincoln Academy forced Morse to have 25 turnovers, but we found a way to grind it out.”

Jen Genthner scored 10 points and Hayden Campbell nine in the loss.

OXFORD HILLS 49

The host Vikings scored all nine points in the first quarter and pulled away from there in KVAC play over the winless Dragons (0-4 and scheduled to host Mt. Ararat on Friday).

Oxford Hills led 22-8 at the half and 34-12 after three.

Abbie Eastman nailed four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points for Oxford Hills.

Lyse Henshaw paced Brunswick with six points.

In Western Maine Conference action on Tuesday, the host Falcons evened their record at 2-2 as Nina Davenport poured in 29 points and pulled down a dozen rebounds.

Freeport, scheduled to host York on Thursday, led 13-8, 25- 13 and 39-24 at the quarter breaks.

Aubrey Pennell chipped in with eight points and Vanessa Lee added six in the winning effort.

Alison Furness paced the Warriors with 17 points.
