YARMOUTH — The town’s second pharmacy robbery in a week was reported Monday morning at the Rite Aid at 478 U.S. Route 1.

Yarmouth Police Lt. Dean Perry said a white man entered the pharmacy around 10:10 a.m. and “requested and received a quantity of synthetic narcotics.” Police on Monday afternoon were still investigating the quantity of drugs stolen.

Perry said the suspect did not show a weapon or threaten he had one. He was described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall,  weighing between 150 and 170 pounds, and wearing dark clothing.

The suspect left the store and was seen heading in the direction of southbound Interstate 295. Police from Cumberland, Falmouth and Freeport were joined by Maine State Police troopers in the search for the suspect, Perry said.

He was unable to provide details about the vehicle the suspect used to escape.

The robbery follows the theft of $5,000 worth of drugs from the pharmacy at the Hannaford Bros. supermarket on U.S. Route 1 on Dec. 19. Perry said police were trying to determine if there is a connection between the robberies.

Police said the suspect in the first robbery, described as a white man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 200 pounds, entered the supermarket through the roof at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19. He stole $5,000 worth of narcotics from the pharmacy, and used a trash can to carry the drugs out of the store.

Employees reportedly saw the suspect leave the store. They told police he was wearing black clothing and carrying a shoulder bag.

Police on Friday released stills of surveillance video of the person they believe to be the suspect, walking in and out of the store on Tuesday.

According to a press release from the Police Department, the suspect walks with a limp on his left side and has a “slightly turned out left foot, which he tends to swing out a bit as he walks.”

Detective Paul Martin on Friday declined to provide more information about how the suspect gained access to the building through the roof or what type of drugs were allegedly stolen.
