Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors, an all-volunteer group dedicated to providing emergency fuel to needy Windham residents, announces the latest most-welcome donations from Richard Davidson, John Glucksman and Stephen Rankin (in honor of his sister and family, Connie and Tom DiBiase). Veterans Meetings
American Legion Post 148 will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Windham Veterans Center. A 5 p.m. social will be followed by a 6 p.m. business meeting. New members are always welcome.
VFW Post 10643 will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Windham Veterans Center. Supper at 5 p.m., business meeting at 6 p.m.
New Support Group
Veterans of all wars are invited to attend a new free Veterans Recovery Support Group at SMART Child and Family Services, 86 Tandberg Trail (Route 115) Windham and Tuesdays at the Portland Recovery Community Center, 468 Forest Ave., Portland. The group meets from 5:30-7 p.m. and is facilitated by two Vietnam veterans who are also licensed clinicians. For more information, call John at SMART Child and Family Services at 893-0386.
Raffle for Jeff Dunham Show
The Business Simulation program at Windham High School is raffling off three tickets to the Jan. 11 Jeff Dunham show. All proceeds will be donated to the Neighbors Helping Neighbors fuel fund. Tickets can be purchased at any home basketball game in the school store or e-mail Diane Leavitt at [email protected]. The drawing is on Jan. 9.
Veterans Health Services
Combat veteran and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Clifford Trott from Portland Vet Center, is available at Windham Veterans Center on the first and third Wednesdays, for appointments with veterans seeking information and/or help. Call 780-3584 to make an appointment for the next available date which is Jan. 2, 2013. These sessions are one-on-one and strictly confidential. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended.
Scholarship Deadline Jan. 2
Saturday, Jan. 12, is the date for the annual Oratorical Contest sponsored by American Legion Field-Allen Post 148. Deadline to sign up is Jan. 2, 2013. Participating students will speak for 8-10 minutes on some facet of the U.S. Constitution, followed by a five-minute response to a more specific question. Local prize for the contest winner is a $200 scholarship with additional prizes at the district, state and national level, with winners receiving between $1,500 and $18,000 in scholarship funds. Information packages are available at the high school guidance office or by contacting Post members Dave Tanguay (892-1306) or Barry Lombard (653-5349).
