LYMAN – A Lyman man accused of firing a rifle into the air while walking along a trail in Lyman has been arrested for illegal possession of a gun by a felon.

Mark Cote, 42, was arrested Sunday following an investigation by the York County Sheriff’s Office into the incident which allegedly took place on a hiking trail.

Chief Deputy William L. King Jr. said that a resident told police that Cote began yelling at him before he fired a rifle into the air. The resident led police to the house where Cote lives but Cote denied he discharged the weapon.

Cote admitted that he owned weapons. A records check revealed that Cote is prohibited from owning a firearm because he is a convicted felon. Cote is scheduled to appear in York County Superior Court on Jan. 30.
