BATH

Oh, what an upset the Morse High School girls had in the making Saturday at the Bath Middle School gym.

The Shipbuilders had Nokomis on the ropes time and time again, but missed free throws and up-and-down offense down the stretch sank the Shipbuilders as the visitors pulled out a 54-50 Class B win.

Morse (4-8 and scheduled to host Camden Hills this afternoon) had the 11-1 Warriors (ranked third in Eastern Maine Class B) going throughout.

In a physical contest, Morse led 16-15 after one quarter as Sadia Crosby and Emma Harrington popped in six points each.

Nokomis regrouped and went up 29-24 at the half, but the hosts trailed just 39-38 after three periods as Megan Hixon hit two 3-pointers.

In the fourth quarter, Signe Ostergaard’s free throw with 1:15 gone tied the game up at 39 and the teams tied again at 43 and 45 with another Ostergaard free throw with :49 seconds left sending the game into overtime.

Morse actually had the ball with 29.3 seconds left, but couldn’t convert and the teams went back and forth.

Nokomis never trailed in the extra period.

A Shaw basket just nine seconds in put Nokomis in the lead and the visitors went up 49-45 before Ostergaard hit two free throws with 1:22 remaining for a 49-47 game.

After a nifty steal by Hixon, Crosby’s free throw with 55.8 seconds remaining cut the deficit to 49-48, but Taylor Shaw came right back with two freebies of her own seven seconds later to make it 51-48.

Morse again cut the deficit to one, 51-50, but Mikayla Charters made two free throws with 27.8 seconds left and Kylie Richards put the game out of reach with her free throw with just 7.8 seconds left.

In the overtime, Morse was five of eight from the line and 12 of 22 overall, while Nokomis was five of 12 from the line in the extra period and 18 of 35 overall.

Ostergaard finished with 17 points, while Crosby had 13 and Harrington 10.

Charters finished with 20 and Shaw had 10.
