U.S. SEN. ANGUS KING, I-Maine, meets with Gary Allen of Great Cranberry Island, who arrived in Washington on Monday after having run more than 700 miles through 10 states to raise money for charities. Averaging 47 miles per day, Allen braved winter elements and fatigue to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society and victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. “It was an honor to meet with Gary,” said King, a Brunswick independent. “His feat is not only incredible and inspiring, but it speaks to the very best of who we are as Mainers. His spirit of strength, generosity and commitment to helping those in need is extraordinary, and I have nothing but the highest respect for him and his efforts.”
