Skowhegan Area High School picked up five first places to capture the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A wrestling title, while Camden Hills successfully defended its Class B championship Saturday at Cony High School.
Skowhegan, the pre-match favorite, picked up a whopping 227.50 points to outdistance the 21-team field and was followed by Camden (142.50), Belfast (104), Mt. Blue (96), Gardiner (81), Mt. Ararat (79) and Morse (77). Brunswick’s Jared Jensen ran his record to 36-0 to capture the 170-pound title and earn 28 points for his school.
Jensen was also named the Class A Outstanding Wrestler.
There were several Midcoast region standouts throughout the day.

In the Mt. Ararat effort, Jacob Kenney lost to Tyler Craig of Skowhegan (pin, 1:58) in the championship 113-pound match, while teammate Felipe Gunter placed second at 145 with a loss (pin, 2:56) to Coleman Powers of Camden Hills.
Damian Grubb of Mt. Ararat placed fourth at 106 and teammate Danny Ewing was fourth at 152.
“When you look at how we placed at the Westlake (11th) with much the same schools competing, I was very pleased with the way we clawed up the ladder,” said Mt. Ararat coach Erick Jensen. “I was also pleased for our four seniors (Kenney, Gunter, Ewing, Jensen) that they all placed … it was a good day for us.”
In the Morse effort, Kyle Bonti was second at 106 after a loss to Peter DelGallo of Gardiner via a pin at 3:43; Cody Maranius was fourth at 120; and teammate Michael Alvarez placed third at 152 with a forfeit win over Ewing.
Tony Stevens of Oxford Hills was named Class A Coach of the Year, while Matt Hanley of Gardiner took home Class B honors.
Dagan Berenyi of Belfast was named Class B Outstanding Wrestler.
Up next is regional action with Mt. Ararat and Brunswick going to Skowhegan (Eastern A) and Morse to Wells (Western B).
