PORTLAND — FairPoint Communications, under a plan recently approved by the Maine PUC, has invested more than $450,000 to install new technology in 11 of its central offices to bring greater broadband speed to customers served by these facilities. Bowdoinham is one of the 11 offices recently upgraded.

“We continue to take the lead in bringing broadband Internet to Mainers, including boosting growth and speed in areas where demand is especially strong,” said Mike Reed, Maine state president for FairPoint.

The network upgrade included adding Ethernet high-speed equipment to the Bowdoinham central office, enabling more customers to achieve the full speed potential of the FairPoint’s next-generation network. The deployment allows some customers in these markets to qualify for higher broadband speeds — up to 15Mbps, depending on distance they are from the central office.

FairPoint has also completed network upgrades that will benefit customers served by central offices in Corinth, Dexter, Mechanic Falls, Monroe,

Searsport, Sullivan, Vinalhaven, Washburn, Wilton and Woodland.
