HARPSWELL — Geraldine Joyce Purinton, 81, resident of Purinton Drive in Harpswell died Monday, January 28, 2013 surrounded by her family at her home following a long illness.

She was born April 18, 1931 in Brunswick, ME a daughter of Hollis and Helen (Lacy) Driscoll. She attended schools in Brunswick and graduated from Brunswick High School with the Class of 1949. Geraldine began work at a very young age on her father’s farm, and then perfected her pie crust at the Woolworth’s lunch counter, was a car hop at Fat Boy Drive In, and spent many cold nights working third shift at the shrimp lab on Pinkham Point, and many a hot summer pressing clothes at Norge Village Dry Cleaners. She ended her long work career as a packing clerk at L.L. Bean in Freeport.

She was an avid gardener, seamstress, and homemaker, and on weekends could often be found supporting her beloved husband’s Country music dance band — The Echoes, when they performed at such places as Lakehurst in Damariscotta.

Geraldine was predeceased by her husband Bruce G. Purinton, Sr. who died in 1993.

Survivors include her son, Bruce G. “Skip” Purinton, Jr. of Harpswell, two daughters, Susan Ellen Dyer of Rhode Island, April Joy Purinton of Harpswell, four sisters, Catherine Toothaker of Harpswell, Patricia Hamilton of Bath, ME, Sondra Rowan of Bath, ME, Edith Mangum of North Carolina, and three grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7PM on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick immediately followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Reverend Gordon Cook officiating. In lieu of sending flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Geraldine’s memory to Brunswick Area RESPITE Care, PO Box 402, Brunswick, ME 04011.
