BRUNSWICK
High winds kept public safety crews busy this morning, responding mostly to calls of downed trees.
Brunswick police Deputy Marc Hagan said the calls began at around 7:51 a.m. for traffic signals out on Bath and Gurnet roads and in the Cook’s Corner area.
The fire department was called to Mere Point Road where trees were on fire on a power line.
There was also a tree reported on lines on Basswood Road, one reported down on College Street and another draped across the railroad tracks behind Fat Boys on Bath Road.
Due to the power outages, Hagan said alarms have been going off at businesses.
The Topsham Fire Department was busy this morning responding to numerous call, mostly reports of downed trees.
As of 9:45 a.m., Central Maine Power Company listed on its website about 6,855 customers without power in Kennebec County and about 7,000 without power in Lincoln County.
There were 3,314 Cumberland County customers — most in Brunswick, Cape Elizabeth and South Portland — without power and about 1,780 in Sagadahoc County, mostly in Topsham.
