WOODSTOCK, Conn. — On Saturday the Hyde School competed in the 2012 Northern New England Invitational, with 14 prep schools from the ISL, Class A, and EIL leagues .
Hyde-Bath finished in fifth place, just 4.5 points behind Lexington (Mass.) Christian Academy. Philips Academy- Andover repeated as tournament champion.
Phoenix standouts included Elliott Wang (152 pounds), who notched two wins, while Sam Williams (106) and Will Davis (220) finished the day just one match shy of placing, and junior Charles Chen (170) earned his first win of the season.
Hang Zhao (126), Billy Martinez (132) and David Wu (145) also competed well, as did Sagel Prosser (160), Andrew Martz (152) Austin Wang (120).
Cody Baker (160, fourth place) and Jack Howarth (195, fourth) earned their way into the consolation finals.
Top-ranked 285-pounder Steven Dwight continued his winning ways with a solid 4-2 title victory over Andrew Crane of Lexington Christian Academy.
Darvin Anderson, ranked fifth in New England at 138, scored a 15-0 semifinal win, followed by a win over Beaver Country Day’s Josh Berland, seventh-ranked in N.E., 11-6 in the championship round.
Anderson was voted the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
