To the Editor:

The Times Record’s recent editorial about Parkview Adventist Medical Center (“State must reject bid to ‘save’ Parkview,” Jan. 30) struck me as a low-road PR job, full of opinions meant to discredit.

My reason for writing is not to continue down the low road. Instead, I would like to add my support for Parkview, which is a true community wellness center as well as a full hospital, and has been since its start.

While it has had its ups and downs, Parkview has been here to serve the community in many ways.

In the many years that my family and I have been going to Parkview — from the birth of our children, to surgeries, to medical tests and procedures, to the many instances of excellent medical and nursing care — we have valued the presence of this community resource. That Parkview does not fill every bed should perhaps be seen in the context of personal and community wellness instead of the institution’s bottom line.

As a resident of Brunswick and a member of the larger community, I support having a choice of hospitals to serve our many needs. And if Mid Coast Hospital needs to distinguish itself as something else, something larger, perhaps they could see themselves as a regional hospital and let Parkview tend to the community.
