Desperate men need not take desperate measures today — not even at 4 or 5 o’clock. And they need not spend like desperate men, either.
If you’re out of work and you still haven’t purchased a Valentine’s Day gift, they’re waiting for you at Pamela’s World on 223 Water St.
If you’re not exactly flush with cash, Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine has jewelry that is affordable to just about anyone.
Cousins Cama Hagerthy and Ann Peaslee help run Pamela’s World Sterling Sil- ver Jewelry with Hagerthy’s sister, Pamela Hagerthy. The cousins were waiting on — you guessed it, men — on Wednesday.
“We will be very busy between 3:30 and 5 (Thursday),” Cama Hagerthy said. “There’s always a late rush of men.”
Peaslee had been showing a customer a display of real butterfly wings. Pamela’s World has the latest trends in jewelry, as well as some classics that have come back.
“The real butterfly wings are hot,” Peaslee said. “The beads for the beads bracelet — they’re very hot. It’s a new kind of charm bracelet.”
Pamela’s World features semi-priceless stones such as blue topaz, amethyst, peridot and more. They also have pearls, and they’re moving.
“They have become more popular than they were,” Peaslee said, “because younger girls are starting to get back into the classic look. The younger girls are wearing pearls.”
Pamela’s World will do all it can today for its late-arriving Valentine’s Day customers. Not only do they gift-wrap for free — something of a rarity these days — but they will stay open at little later than 5.
Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine, at 170 Front St., has much more than jewelry. But owners Lisa-Marie and Andy Stewart do carry charming hand-painted, inexpensive pieces made by Julia Knapp of Brunswick. The ear rings are both affordable and attractive.
“She’s very talented,” Andy Stewart said.
Lisa-Marie’s also features Miller Designs, earrings made by Gail Miller of Chebeague Island. Miller makes barettes, earrings and bracelets. Miller Designs creates beautiful, simple and affordable treasures, fashioned in copper, brass and nickel.
Lisa-Marie’s will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
