BATH

Studio Theatre of Bath has put together six one act plays, collectively called “Sex, Lies and the Devil Inside,” for an evening of laughter, beginning tonight at 7:30 p.m. for a two weekend run.

The show was scheduled to open last weekend, but the blizzard — otherwise known as “Nemo” — caused the theater to change its plans.

“We were all ready to go,” Studio Theater president Wayne Otto said. “But we didn’t feel our actors would be able to get there and the audience wouldn’t be able to get there. We might’ve been able to open on Sunday, but we decided to just cancel the whole weekend and keep everyone safe.”

“A Matter of Husbands,” directed by Wanda McNeil, is about an earnest young wife (Kirstin Hayward) who suspects that her husband is having an affair with a famous and glamorous actress (Tamara Lilly), so she decides to take matters into her own hands and confront her with the evidence.

Vince Shatto directs “Two Slatterns and a King,” a classic tale of never judging a book by its cover. King (Lee Leiner) is on a quest to find the perfect wife. Chance (Colin Kelley) wreaks havoc by causing Tidy (Laurie Holland) to be surrounded by mess, and Slut (Kirstin Hayward) to actually clean her home for a day. The King, of course, is in a hurry to get married and consequently misjudges both women.

Shatto also directs “He Said and She Said,” in which a gossip (Tamara Lilly) begins telling her hostess (Lynne Otto) that the other party guest (Christina Boyington) is trying to get her husband (Lee Leiner). Who to believe?

Christina Boyington makes her directorial debut with “An Angel Intrudes,” about a man (Newton Dubs) and his girlfriend (Ellie Hawks) who are embracing just as his guardian angel (Colin Kelly) appears. The angel, never having experienced feminine charms before, immediately falls for the girlfriend. The officer is played by Harley Marshall.

“A Dollar,” directed by April Purinton, includes a troupe of traveling actors who find a dollar in the middle of the road, but who gets it? Maybe the ingenue (Ellie Hawks), or the villain (Newton Dubs), the comedian (Mike Rowe), the tragedian (Lee Leiner), the old man (Harley Marshall), the old woman (Lynne Otto), the heroine (Christina Boyington), or the stranger (Colin Kelly).

Belita Velizco directs “His Return,” about a woman (Lynne Otto) who awaits her husband’s (Newton Dubs) return from war and frets to her friend (Ellie Hawks) and her maid (Laurie Holland) that she has become old, fat and unattractive in the three years since he left.

“We’re hoping that people who planned to come last weekend will come to the shows over the next two weekends and we’ll have good full houses. From the cast’s point of view, they’re even more ready to go,” Otto said.
