It’s great that United Way, Mid Coast Hospital and Access Heath have come to the rescue by giving thousands of dollars to extend the contract of a longtime school health coordinator at School Administrative District 75.

It’s not so great the state eliminated funding for those positions in the middle of a budget cycle last year, leaving 30 Maine school districts reeling.

Is this another slide toward privatization of our public school system? A bad set of public priorities? Maybe both?

Either way, it’s good to know the community cares — even if the state doesn’t.
