BRUNSWICK

Sewer rates will increase $1 to $2 per month for the average household beginning in April, according to sewer district trustees.

A public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight in the Brunswick Sewer District’s office building at 10 Pine Tree Road, to answer residents’ questions and receive suggestions or concerns.

Three separate categories of increase are proposed:

— Metered use, flat rate fixtures, roof drains, and catch basins are slated to go up by 6 percent.

For the average metered household water use of 2,000 cubic feet per month, the rate increase equals $5.30 per quarter, or $1.33 per month.

Minimum-use customers can expect to pay an additional $2.12 per quarter, or 71 cents, per month.

The proposed rate for 100 cubic feet of water use is $4.69 — an increase of 27 cents. One hundred cubic feet equals 748 gallons.

— Septage will increase 3.45 percent.

— Fees for holding tank waste will jump by 4 percent.

Based on the proposed rate, the district is collecting, transporting, and treating the municipal wastewater for a rate of $0.0062 per gallon.

Sewer district rates last increased by 5.2 percent in 2010, and by 5 percent in 2008. A complete list of proposed rate changes can be found online at www.brunswicksewer.org.
