The AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program.

Now in its 46th year, it is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, giving special attention to the older population. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.

Forum on handgun violence

Woodfords Church will hold a community forum, led by the Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Hall at 202 Woodford St.

Safe baby, toddler program

A “Safe Baby Infant Safety & Infant/Toddler CPR” program will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Southern Maine Medical Center at 1 Medical Center Drive.

Cost is $25 per couple or $15 per person.

This class is a non-certificate course by the American Heart Association.

Diabetes education program

Sign-ups are being taken for a free diabetes education program to be offered at 6 p.m. March 6 at Goodall Hospital.

Diabetes instructor Kirk Kenyon will head the talk, sharing diabetes self-management and lifestyle strategies based on extensive training and his personal experience as a diabetic.

Kenyon’s presentation will cover how to achieve good glucose control, effective self-management, develop a balanced lifestyle, and find resources for diabetes support.

The class will be held at the Goodall Hospital Conference Room at 25 June St.

Free photography program

Springvale Public Library will present a free program for aspiring photographers from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the children’s room at 443 Main St.

The program, headed by local children’s book author Bruce McMillan, is open to ages 6 through 18 and includes instruction on how to use movement in photographs.

Attendees should bring their own digital cameras.

Patten Free Library, at 33 Summer St., will host “Introduction to Skype and Video Chat” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The class is a primer for those with little to no experience but a desire to learn how to connect with friends and family online. Attendees should bring their own laptop or tablet.
