AUGUSTA (AP) — It’s not the most provocative bill to be taken up this year, but it has drawn the attention from bar owners in Maine — and people who take their St. Patrick’s Day celebrating seriously.

A bill that the Judiciary Committee will review today seeks to add a few hours to the time revelers can buy a drink on that special day.

State law prohibits the sale of liquor on Sunday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Rep. Barry Hobbins’ bill says bars and restaurants would be allowed to serve alcohol starting at 6 a.m. when St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, falls on a Sunday, as it does this year.
