CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Chelsea Damon scattered seven hits and walked two while striking out one in a complete game to lift the University of New England to a 3-1 win over Worcester State in their first softball game of the day at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Megan Gauger and Meghan Bolano drove in one run apiece for the Nor’easters (2-3), and Erin Grover scored a pair of runs.

In the second game, the Nor’easters beat Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 4-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Abby Lambert tied it with a pinch-hit, two-run double and scored the winning run on a groundout as the Nor’easters (3-3) scored four times to rally for a walk-off win.

Lauren Doneski gave up three runs on eight hits and struck out two to earn the complete-game victory for UNE.

OSWEGO STATE 5, BOWDOIN 3: The Lakers (2-5) used a three-run third inning to build a 4-2 lead and held on for a win over the Polar Bears (6-3) at Clermont, Fla.

BOWDOIN 4, BABSON 3: Siena Mitman scored the winning run on a single by Hanna Wurgaft with one out in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Polar Bears (7-3) to an extra-inning win over the Beavers (4-2).

Bowdoin took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Gen Barlow, but Babson answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to extend the game.

Julia Geaumont gave up three unearned runs over eight innings to earn the win for Bowdoin and reliever Melissa DellaTorre closed out the game in the ninth.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BATES 21, ST. JOSEPH’S 3: Kelan McCann scored four goals and assisted on three others as the Bobcats (3-3) cruised to a win over the Monks (3-3) at Lewiston.

Moriah Greenstein added three goals for Bates and Alex Briody finished with two goals and three assists.

Cassie Diplock scored all three goals for St. Joseph’s.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

AP POLL: Gonzaga’s first stint on top of the college basketball rankings lasted through the final Top 25 of the season. The Bulldogs (31-2), the fourth of the four top seeds in the NCAA tournament, were a runaway No. 1 for a third straight week.

Louisville is second, followed by Kansas, Indiana, Miami, Duke, Ohio State, Georgetown, Michigan State and Michigan.

JAMES MADISON: Coach Matt Brady suspended scoring and rebounding leader Rayshawn Goins for the first half of the Dukes’ NCAA tournament game after Goins was arrested over the weekend.

Harrisonburg police said Goins was arrested Sunday on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing justice, after they were called to break up a party early Sunday morning.

Police said Goins was shouting obscenities at them and “enticing the crowd.”
