A rise in food insecurity in Maine and the United States reflects an increasing demand for help at soup kitchens around the state. This maps shows the percentage of Mainers to report food insecurity in 2010, the most recent available data that is broken down by county. The percentage of Mainers who reported food insecurity increased from 9 percent in 2002 to 14.9 percent in 2010.
