BAILEY ISLAND — Carlton B. Johnson, age 88, died at a local hospital March 26, 2013.

He was born November 21, 1924 on Bailey Island, the son of William and Ada Doughty Johnson. He graduated from Brunswick High School after returning from his service in the US Navy. He married Natalie Cole in the Union Church, Bailey Island, May 24, 1947. He was a lifelong lobsterman.

He was an avid sports fan, whether reading about it or watching live action. He as well enjoyed bowling later in life, after having excelled in track, football and baseball in his youth. He and Mrs. Johnson shared an interest in square dancing and had been members of the Sage Swingers, Brunswick.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Natalie; a son, Gary Carl Johnson and his wife Paula of Portland; a daughter, Janice Marie Ling and her husband Brian of Colchester, VT; three sisters, Arlene Delaney of Topsham, Connie Johnson and her husband Edward of Bailey Island, Diana Davis and her husband Jim of Bailey Island; four grandsons, Benjamin Levasseur, Jacob Levasseur, Sam Johnson, Gabe Johnson; three granddaughters, Emily Duda, Meaghan Johnson, Hope Ling, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 am April 6, 2013 at the Union Church, Bailey Island. A private family interment will take place later in the Spring in Bailey Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Harpswell Island Little League Fund.
