BRUNSWICK — Canoe builder Steve Cayard will speak about the “Beauty and Tradition of the Birchbark Canoe” at a Friends of the Merrymeeting Bay Winter Speaker Series talk, 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Curtis Memorial Library.

Cayard — who builds authentically styled birchbark canoes in the tradition of the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy and Maliseet tribes of Maine and New Brunswick — is a non-native, self-taught builder who developed strong ties with tribal builders from whose traditions he borrows.

The Winter Speaker Series is free to the public, with support and door prizes from Patagonia Outlet in Freeport.
