AARON HYDE, a home-schooled Harpswell eighth-grader, placed third April 5 in the Maine State National Geographic Bee at the University of Maine-Farmington — one of only eight state finalists to have earned a perfect score in preliminary rounds. It was his fourth time to qualify for the state-level bee, after winning a school-level bee at Midcoast Maine Homeschool Center in Bath.
