AUGUSTA — Down 10-4 at the half, firstyear Brunswick High School girls lacrosse coach Steph Fisher got her squad focused by playing a game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors.”

The Dragons responded by getting within two goals in their season-opening Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference encounter with Cony.

But, the Rams pulled away again, holding on for a 13-9 victory on Thursday.

“We had to get our energy back and find that competitive spirit, and we came out and scored the first goal of the second half,” said Fisher, whose Dragons return to action on April 23 at home against Edward Little.

Eliza Brooks paced Brunswick (0-1) with four goals and two assists, with Savanna Kay chipping in two goals and a like number of helpers. Jessica McGoldrick and Sydney Anderson added one goal each, and netminder EmaLeigh Aschbrenner had eight stops in her first varsity start.
