She was born November 13, 1915 and raised in Bath, the eldest daughter (of two) to Bernice and Frank M. Lemont both of Bath. She attended schools in Bath and graduated from Morse High School in 1933.
Margery married Frank P. Sylvester Jr. on May 28th, 1938. She attended school with Frank, and being a “Firey Redhead” and a lover of life, he was lucky to catch her as well he knew.
They started their married life by moving to South Carolina, where Frank took a job at the shipyard there. But the story was that she was homesick and so they returned to Maine and eventually to Bath where they lived the rest of their days together. Margery and Frank were married 73 years when Frank passed away.
Margery worked at the Bath Memorial Hospital as a secretary in the dietary department until retirement. She was an excellent cook and baker, and often helped out baking goods for the patients at the hospital.
She was also famous for her pies and other goodies she baked for suppers at the Corliss St. Baptist church. She loved attending the church and was proud of her flower arrangements she did for the services there each Sunday. Having a love of flowers and arranging, she spent many hours working in her beautiful flower gardens as well as vegetable gardens.
Margery loved entertaining. She put on many large family dinners as well as putting on dinners for class reunions at her home as well as at the family cottage in Southport.
She and Frank enjoyed spending every summer with her family at the cottage as well. She will long be loved and missed there, but will never be forgotten.
Margery and Frank raised and are survived by two children: Stevan L. Sylvester, the oldest, who suffered a brain injury in 1980, resides at Seaside nursing and retirement home, 850 Baxter Blvd., Portland, Me. Margery and Frank spent many years sharing care for him after his accident, with his wife Ellen Ballou and her parents Beverly and Franklin Howe at their home on upper Washington St. in Bath.
Margery is also survived by her daughter, Ann Harford and husband Rick of Edgecomb, Maine; nieces Julie Raccioppi and husband Nick of Woolwich, Betsy Jordan and husband Rob, Gail Cann and husband George, and nephew Roger Young and wife Joanne all of Florida, and Ellen Ballou of Bath.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, her sister Frances Young and husband of Bath.
There will be no service at this time. A small graveside service will be announced and held at a later date, and a Celebration of Life will be held at the family cottage this summer.
