Roast beef dinner
Windham Lions Club will hold a roast beef dinner on Saturday, April 20, at the North Windham Union Church from 5-7 p.m. $8. per person. This is to benefit Windham community services.
Money Smart Week at Library
Windham Public Library is hosting the following events during Money Smart Week. Monday, April 22, 3:15-4 p.m., second to fifth-graders are invited to learn about money and banking led by Joline Avery from Norway Savings Bank. Each participant will receive their own booklet, A Kid’s Guide to Money, to take home. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend with their children. On Thursday, April 25 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., a Family Budgeting 101 presentation will be held and at 1 p.m., Couponing do’s and don’ts will be offered.
Maine’s first mapmaker
Monday, April 22, 7 p.m., “Moses Greenleaf: Maine’s first mapmaker” presented by Holly Hurd, Osher Map Library at Windham Historical Society, 234 Windham Center Road, Windham. $5 suggested donation. For more information, call 892-1306 or 892-1433.
Tea for you
Tea for You @ the Library will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the meeting room. There is no charge – just drop in and enjoy! Conversation, tea and goodies. All ages – kids to adults – are welcome.
Speakout
On Thursday, April 25, 2013, Bill Diamond will host Speakout on Windham’s local channel 7 at 7 p.m. This month’s topic will be the shortage of athletic fields in the town of Windham. Viewers can call in with questions or comments during the show at 892-0546 or be part of the audience during the program. Come to the Council Chambers at Windham town office, 8 School Road.
Free community meal
On Saturday, April 27, a free community meal will be served buffet style at Christ Chapel, 37 Northern Pines Road, Raymond. The menu includes baked ham, casseroles, veggies, salads and desserts. All ages are welcome and this is open to the surrounding communities!
Theater tickets raffle!
The Windham Food Pantry is holding a raffle to win two tickets to the Oqunquit Playhouse this season. Drawing will be May 30. To enter drop off three non-perishable items to the Windham Food Pantry and enter your name. Needed items are cereal, pasta, rice dishes, crackers, peanut butter and jelly. Three personal hygiene items are also needed: body wash, shampoo and toothbrushes.
Senior Center activities
Lake Region Senior Center is located at 40 Acorn St., Gorham, and is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Stop in and find out what it’s all about – if you’re not a member, consider joining. Upcoming events include a baked bean luncheon on Monday, April 22, at noon featuring two kinds of beans, cole slaw, potato salad, hot dogs, rolls and pies. Suggested donation, $4. On Wednesday, April 24, at 10 a.m. Joan Morton and Linda Adams will present a talk on how to save on a variety of services including electricity, Internet and cell phones. Regular member activities include cribbage, RummiKub, crocheting, poker, Phase 10, bridge, Wii games and on Thursdays, bingo is at 10 a.m.
Share your plants!
Windham Historical Society will hold their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historical Society museum. The Society is looking for donations of perennials, house plants, seedlings (vegetable and annuals), slightly worn plant pots, gardening related items such as books, hangers, tools, etc., birdhouses, garden decorations, wind-chimes and other items which society members will convert to great looking containers and de?cor. Old wooden boxes, chairs, worn shutters, crockery, old wicker chairs with broken seats – all can be re-purposed into a unique plant holder.
