TOPSHAM — Through two games, the Mt. Ararat High School baseball team has scored just three runs.

But, a solid pitching performance by Reid Drouin and a clutch RBI double by Brandon Marshall led the Eagles to a hard-fought 2-1 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Oxford Hills on Friday.

Drouin went the distance, allowing five hits, one walk and striking out four.

Scoreless in the fourth, Gabe Pelletier walked and scored on an error for a 1-0 lead. Marshall followed with a two-out double to double the lead.

Oxford Hills cut the lead in half in the sixth on an RBI single by Jordan Croteaux, but Drouin finished the Vikings (1-1) off.

Dalton Rice, Garrett Phillebrown and Ryan Godin pitched for Oxford Hills on five hits, eight strikeouts and three walks. Nick Bowie doubled.

BANGOR 8

BRUNSWICK 1

At Brunswick on Friday, Justin Courtney threw six innings of four-hit, shutout ball to lead Bangor to its second win in as many games.

The Rams outhit the 0-2 Dragons 9-5.

Courtney struck out eight with no walks. Jordan Treadwell pitched the seventh.

Parker Sanderson doubled and singled to pace the Bangor attack, and Anthony Capuano doubled. Carl Farnham scored three times.

Adam Casey had two singles for Brunswick, while Brady Larson, Brett Lancaster and Ryan Maciejewski took turns on the mound.

Brunswick is scheduled to host Oxford Hills this afternoon.

MORSE 6

LIN. ACADEMY 8

A big fourth inning for host Lincoln Academy proved too much for Morse to over come on Friday. Morse is scheduld to host Medomak Valley this afternoon.

LA scored four runs in the fourth on a couple of hits withthree Morse errors on dropped fly balls in a windy outfield.

Lincoln Academy led 8-3 lead, but Morse got a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

“Morse swung the bats well at the plate on a tough day to hit,” said Morse coach Garrett Olsen. “The wind was blowing in very hard from center. Andrew LaCavera and Trenton Moore hit the ball on the nose all day, but just wasn’t enough for the win.”

On the mound for Morse was Moore, who struck out four.

In the Morse effort, Ethan Winglass had two hits, run scored and walk, Liam McDonough two hits, two runs, Paul Whalen a hit, RBI and run, LaCavera a double and RBI and Moore a hit.
