Yard Sale

Unity of Greater Portland will hold its annual yard sale on Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11. On Friday, hours are 2-6 p.m. and on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of great items. They’re located on the lower end of River Road.

Electronic Recycling

Saturday, May 11, bring TVs, computer monitors, hard drives, laptops, printers, cordless phones, cell phones, VCR, DVD audio equipment, stereos, speakers – NO stoves, refrigerators, microwaves or freezers. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Windham Mall, enter Veterans Memorial Drive (by Friendly’s). Donations accepted to cover cost of organizing. Donations benefit local mission needs via the Windham Hill UCC. Call 653-5989 with any questions.

Ride/Walk Mountain Division Trail

On Saturday, May 11, the Windham Active Lifestyles Coalition (WALC) will hold a fun ride/walk on the Mountain Division Trail to celebrate National Bike Month. Meet at the Gambo Road parking lot at 2:30 p.m. There will be several distance options and door prizes for kids.

Historic House Tour

On Saturday, May 11, the Windham Historical Society will hold a house tour including some of Windham’s most unique homes – the Parson Smith House, Moses Little House, Bodge House and Winslow-Chute House. Reservations are suggested. Donation is $20 individual, $35 for two. Pick up a tour pass at the Society on Saturday morning. Hours for the tour are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. except for the Parson Smith House, which is open 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is a fundraiser for the Society’s Village Green project and details are available at www.windhamhistorical.org. Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop at the North Windham United Church of Christ is open from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday or 10 a.m. until noon Saturdays. The Thrift Shop is in the lower level of the church. Be sure to check out this great place to save!

Family Fishing Derby

The Donnabeth Lippman Park Family Fishing Derby will be held from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18. Register by May 16 – call 892-1905. The derby is for boys and girls ages 14 and under. The derby is free so come down to fish or just take a hike around the pond. Bring your own bait and fishing gear. Prizes will be awarded for the smallest and largest fish caught in different age groupings. Prizes will be fishing poles for the biggest fish caught and tackle boxes for smallest fish caught. Donnabeth Lippman Park entrance is located off Route 302 behind the Sherwin Williams Paint store – the park was formerly known as the Chaffin Pond Preserve.

Veterans Services

On Wednesday, May 15, combat veteran and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Clifford Trott from Portland Vet Center, is available at Windham Veterans Center for appointments with veterans seeking information and/or help. Call 780-3584 to make an appointment for the next available date. These sessions are one-on-one and strictly confidential. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended.

Sinclair Video Goes Viral

Eoin Sinclair has a video that in two days had over a half million views on YouTube. Sinclair, who soon graduates from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and will be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, landed a great job in Oregon and in June will be getting married, his father Louis Sinclair of Windham reports. Gunpowder Mill Talk and Tour

Gambo Gunpowder Mill will be the subject of a PowerPoint presentation on Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m. at the Windham Historical Society on Windham Center Road. After a lunch break, a 1 p.m. tour of the historic site will be held – those attending should meet at the Newhall bridge by the mill. Suggested donation is $10 ($5 for each segment). Alumni Banquet

Windham High School Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 18, at the Middle School cafeteria. Doors open at 4 p.m. with dinner. The cost this year is $10 per person. Roast Beef Supper

On Saturday, May 18, Windham Hill UCC will hold a public roast beef supper at 5-6:30 p.m. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potato, green beans, dessert and all the fixin’s. Adults $8, under 12, $5.

Medicare Reminder

On Tuesday, May 21, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A Welcome to Medicare seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Medicare seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m. to noon. Call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for the upcoming seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Further opportunities for these services will occur at the same location in June. Pizza Challenge

On Thursday, May 23, the Sebago Lake Rotary Club will hold a pizza challenge at 5:30 p.m. at the former Goodwill building next to the North Windham post office. At least 15 vendors will show off their best pizza. It’s an all-you-can-eat affair, and vote for your favorite. $10 for adults, $5 for children. There will be music, raffles and a silent auction, too.

Theater Tickets Raffle

The Windham Food Pantry is holding a raffle to win two tickets to the Oqunquit Playhouse this season and a $50 dinner gift certificate. Drawing will be May 30. To enter to win simply drop off three non-perishable items to the Windham Food Pantry and enter your name. Needed items are cereal, pasta, rice dishes, crackers, peanut butter and jelly. Three personal hygiene items are also needed: body wash, shampoo and toothbrushes. The tickets are good for any weekday show and are valued at $62 each. Plays featured are: Thoroughly Modern Millie, West Side Story, The Rat Pack is back, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and Young Frankenstein. Share Your Plants

Windham Historical Society will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historical Society museum. The Society is looking for donations of perennials, house plants, seedlings (vegetable and annuals), slightly worn plant pots, gardening-related items such as books, hangers, tools, etc., birdhouses, garden decorations, wind-chimes and other items which society members will convert to great looking containers and de?cor. Old wooden boxes, chairs, worn shutters, crockery, old wicker chairs with broken seats ? all can be re-purposed into a unique plant holder.
