Happy Paddlers

9 a.m. on May 21 in Bremen

The Pemaquid Paddlers, that loose but very large informal paddle club, is celebrating its 10th year of warm-weather Tuesday paddles. Next week the club will start the season with a paddle in Duck Puddle Pond. All trips last two to three hours. The trips are easy to moderate in difficulty. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. All trips are free and open to the public. Call 677-6380 or email at pemaquidpaddlers@aol.com. The put-in for this week’s paddle is off Bremen Road, also called Nobleboro Road, at the outlet of Duck Puddle Pond.

Crystal Spring Hike

7:30 a.m. in Brunswick

Merrymeeting Audubon, Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, and Harpswell Heritage Land Trust invite the public to attend a series of bird-watching adventures in the Merrymeeting Bay region from May through June. One of the first will be Thursday at Crystal Spring Farm in Brunswick. Come explore the fields, forests and ponds there, and search for sparrows, bluebirds, boblinks and several species of warblers. Wildlife Walk

9 to 11 a.m. in Jefferson

Wanda Garland, a botanist and photographer, will lead a wildlife walk at Hidden Valley Nature Center through the preserve forest and out to the kettle-hole bog. Warren Woods Walk

5 p.m. in Scarborough

Birder Eddie Woodin will lead a bird walk at Warren Woods on the Scarborough Land Trust’s new property off Payne Road. Bring binoculars and wear boots for wet areas. Walk will be held rain or shine. Canceled if there is a downpour. All welcome. To reserve a spot for parking, call 289-1199.

Free Fishing Festival

9 a.m.-2 p.m., June 1, Bethel

The Upper Andro Alliance and Trout Unlimited are hosting a free family fishing festival at Angevine Park on North Road in Bethel. There will be casting workshops and fly-tying instruction. Lessons for both spin casting and fly casting will be offered, and free rods and reels will be available. The pond will be stocked that day by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
