Hike for Hunger Fashion Show
13-year-old Kylie Trawick is hiking the entire 2,184 miles of the Appalachian Trail to support a local food bank. Come support her effort by attending a Hike for Hunger fashion show on Sunday, May 19, 2-5 p.m., at the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester.
The fashion show will be hosted by Joyce Trawick, who is a CAbi Fashion independent consultant. Admission is free, although donations will be gratefully accepted. Additionally, proceeds from clothing sales will be donated to the New Gloucester food pantry.

EMS Week
Open House
Come meet the EMTs that serve your town at an open house at the fire station, 611 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 22.
There will be demonstrations, face painting, kid’s ID and blood pressure checks. Other features include door prizes from Cabela’s, L.L. Bean and Hodgman’s Frozen Custard, plus a movie ticket give-away. Kids in grades K-5 may sign up to win a ride to school on either a fire truck or the ambulance. A special dedication of a bench to EMS Sr. Lt. Elaine Verrill will occur at 6 p.m.
MSAD 15 Budget Meeting
A public meeting on the MSAD 15’s proposed budget for 2014 will take place at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 23, at the Gray-New Gloucester High School Cafeteria. Registration opens at 6 p.m. Details on the proposed budget can be found at www.msad15.org.
A budget validation referendum vote will take place at the town election, to be held at the New Gloucester Fire Station, 611 Lewiston Road from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 11.
Shaker Village Opening for the Season
The 2013 season of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum, Route 26, New Gloucester will open on Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. The museum will be open Mondays through Saturdays (closed Sundays), 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Monday, Oct. 14. On Saturday, May 25, during a one-day workshop, learn how to make a 2-by-3-feet canvas floor cloth. The instructor will be Betsy Grecoe, who has been conducting these workshops for many seasons. The fee is $55 (materials included), and pre-registration is required.
Two guided nature hikes through the fields and woods of Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, New Gloucester will be conducted on Saturday, May 25. The first will start at 10 a.m., and the second will begin at 1:30 p.m. Highlights will include Loon’s Point on Sabbathday Lake, Aurelia’s Cascade, Old Grandfather and the Old County Road. The fees are $5 for adults, $2 for children 6 and over; under 6 free.
Candidates’ Forum
Four candidates are vying for two open seats on the New Gloucester Board of Selectmen. They are Stephen Hathorne, Steven Libby, Joshua McHenry and Gary Sacco. A candidates’ forum, open to the public, will be held on Friday, May 31, 7 p.m. at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road.
Beverly Cadigan will serve as the moderator. Citizens are encouraged to send questions to be asked by the moderator before noon on Thursday, May 23, either by email to [email protected], or by USPS to NGTV, Town of New Gloucester, 385 Intervale Rd, New Gloucester, ME 04260. Also, the format will include a structured open session for questions from the audience. After the forum, the candidates will be on hand for a half-hour to speak one-on-one with the citizens present. This follow-up will not be televised.
The forum will be telecast live on community access cable Channel 3 and will be rebroadcast on the first two weekends in June at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Also, a video of the program will be available online at www.newgloucester.com.
