The 40th Annual Bowdoinham Library Plant Sale will open its doors at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at Town Hall. The plant sale, which generates money for a large portion of the town’s public library budget, will again offer perennials, herbs, vegetable and annual seedlings, trees and shrubs. The sale ends at 4 p.m. A cake decorating contest this year will commemorate the 40-year anniversary, volunteer Diana Mosher said. Plant sale shoppers Saturday will judge the cakes, which will be on display from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Longtime organizers of the state’s longest-running plant sale say they usually sell out of bee balm, which can be used for tea and is a favorite of hummingbirds. Last year’s plant sale raised more than $12,000 for the library, according to Mosher. Town Hall is located at 13 School St. dmoore@timesrecord.com

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
