TOPSHAM — Carly Cosgrove hit a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning and pitcher Cordelia Stewart allowed no runs over the final five innings to lead 8- 5 Bangor to a 20-9 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory at Mt. Ararat.

The host Eagles fell to 4-9 and visit Cony today.

Sydni Cosgrove chipped in with two doubles and two singles, while Alexis Stanhope drove home four runs on two singles to pace the Bangor offense. Lilli Wiseman also chalked up three hits.

Stewart replaced starting pitcher Emily Reilly in the third inning and allowed no runs on two hits, while striking out four and walking two.

Taylor Pare led Mt. Ararat with a double and one single, while Devon Hutchins had a two-run triple in the first. Starting pitcher Kim Leslie threw a complete game, allowing 20 hits, while striking out none and walking six. The Eagles defense came away with eight errors.

MORSE 8

LEAVITT 12

Michelle Morin had three hits, including a double, as the host Hornets defeated Morse in KVAC play at Turner on Friday.

Sierra Santomango and Sarah Pare scattered three hits each. Pare added three RBIs for 2-10 Leavitt.

The Shipbuilders are 2-11 and host Belfast on Wednesday.

Morse pitcher Jacelyn McNeill had four strikeouts and a walk, while Morin fanned three and walked the same number for the Hornets.

In the Morse effort, Nichole Laggan had three singles and an RBI, Meghan Stover a double, single and two RBIs, Lucy Rawson two singles, Kate Dube a triple and single, Megan Hixon and Leia Graves a single and RBI each, and McNeill, Neisa Ryder and Morgan Cram a single each.

“We played better offensively this time out,” said Morse coach Will Laffely. “Had more opportunities to score … two runners were thrown out at home and we left seven runners on base. We need to continue focus on the defensive side of the game.”

In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, Jamie Plummer struck out 10 and walked two.

In the eight-hit Richmond attack, Payton Johnson had three singles.

Haley Cuddy pitched for Forest Hills with three strikeouts and four walks, while Josie Hoyt had the big bat with two doubles and two RBIs.

In the East-West Conference nightcap, Plummer pitched 4.1 innings of relief with eight strikeouts and no walks. Ciarra Lancaster went the first 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and four walks.

Kalah Patterson had two singles and an RBI and Bri Snedeker two singles for Richmond, now 11-0 and scheduled to visit Buckfield on Tuesday.
