To the Editor:
The area in the Brunswick Master Plan for downtown and the outer Pleasant Street corridor, adopted in January 2011, abuts the property of the proposed train maintenance facility in the Brunswick West neighborhood.
The plan clearly states: “We believe that having an attractive, safe, vibrant downtown and outer Pleasant Street Corridor would encourage families to live, work, play and shop downtown and along outer Pleasant Street — and that neighborhoods are economic engines.”
After spending two years of time, energy and resources creating this plan, why did the town manager and counselors not keep to that vision?
Building an industrial-sized building in a neighborhood will forever change that neighborhood. It will not be attractive or safe, and it will not encourage families to live or play.
What holds more weight, Brunswick’s Master Plan or (the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority)?
