To the Editor:
How does Topsham attract new businesses to the Topsham Fair Mall while more businesses close at Cook’s Corner?
Thanks to the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, we have new enterprises at Brunswick Landing, but MRRA is not responsible for the two malls at Cook’s Corner. The Brunswick Downtown Association and those working to preserve the historical character of the downtown deserve our thanks, but health of Cook’s Corner should be someone’s priority.
I searched the entire town website and was unable to find anyone listed as someone to contact about economic development. Who would that person be? Anyone who clicks on the town website should find a direct link to the person who will respond immediately to inquiries about moving or starting a business here.
The Town Council should direct the town manager to focus on economic development until these vacant retail spaces are filled.
Brunswick should welcome newcomers, and consider that creating more rules for planning and development will not generate more revenue.
