TOPSHAM

Four local Latin students recently excelled on the National Latin Exam — a standardized test taken by more than 150,000 Latin students in 50 states and 15 countries that tests knowledge of Latin grammar, vocabulary, history, mythology and application.

Seventh-grader Samuel Schneider of Bowdoinham received a Magna Cum Laude; eighth-grader Gus Anderson of Phippsburg received a Maxima Cum Laude Silver Medal; and eighth-grader Josiah Otis of Freeport received a Summa Cum Laude Gold Medal.

Tenth-grader Emma Schneider of Bowdoinham received a Summa Cum Laude Gold Medal on the Latin 3 exam; this is her third gold medal on the exam.

All four are students of Susan Strickland who participate in the Merrymeeting Homeschool League, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Topsham.
