The defending State Class A champion Brunswick High School girls tennis team is headed back to the Eastern finals following Friday’s 4-1 semifinal verdict over No. 3 Brewer.

“Except for the distance, it’s nice to go to Orono because this is where as the coach, the Brunswick boys won three titles in the late 90’s,” said Brunswick coach Rob Manter. “Also, it is where I played my college tennis, so it is special for me.”
Brunswick and Mt. Blue met twice in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference regular season with the Dragons prevailing 5-0 each time.

Silverman, runner-up in the MPA Singles Championships earlier in the week, beat Ashleigh Gibula, 6-0, 6-0, while Stankiewicz toppled Claire Valley, 6-1, 6-1, and Soloway defeated Megan Libby, 6-4, 6-1.
In the other doubles match, Brunswick’s Ari Kasabian and Ellie Mersereau fell to Laura Meyneri and Brittany Ezell, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Also on Friday, top-ranked Brunswick fell to No. 4 Hampden Academy, 4-1. Hampden is set to meet No. 2 Bangor (14-0), a 5-0 semifinal winner over Erskine Academy.
Hampden won all three singles matches.
Alex Townsend got past Mitch Cooney, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; Ian Miller beat Jimmy Kenyon, 6-1, 6-3; and Sam Jordan defeated Joel Soloway, 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles play, Hampden’s Dan Neo and Oakley Kilgour beat Angelo Gerardi and Henry Ditzel, 6-4, 6-0, while Brunswick’s Damian Koch and Xander Knox slipped past Matt Harris and Logan Lafayette, 6-3, 7-5.
Brunswick ends with a 13-1 record, while Hampden improved to 12-2.
