PORTLAND — The Altoona Curve (23-33) scored seven runs in the second inning and cruised by the Portland Sea Dogs (30-25), 13-6 in Eastern League play on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
Right-fielder Alex Dickerson had a career-high seven RBIs, cracking two homers, including a grand slam. Second baseman Jarek Cunningham went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs.
Casey Sadler (6-3) tossed 5.2 innings on seven hits, four runs and seven strikeouts to earn the win. Portland’s Matt Barnes (3-2) lasted only 1.2 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits.
Andrew Lambo and Cunningham began the second with back-to-back homers. Dickerson’s grand slam came with two outs. Altoona sent 12 men to the plate in the second, pounding out eight hits. Cunningham capped off the sevenrun frame with an RBI double.
In the third, the Curve scored three unearned runs off Keith Couch (3.1 innings). Mel Rojas Jr. and Dickerson had sacrifice flies, and Charlie Cutler added a run-scoring double. Dickerson did it again in the fifth, crushing a tworun shot, giving the Curve a 12-0 lead.
Portland put up a five-spot in the sixth inning. Tony Thomas gave the ’Dogs their first two runs with a double.
