What do you get when you combine wind, water, loads of fun, and over 400 middle and high school students and teachers? You get the Windstorm and Wind Blade Challenge held on May 3 at The University of Maine’s New Balance and Student Recreation Center.
The University of Maine welcomed participating students from more than 60 Maine schools for a day-long event. A team from Morse High School (in combination with the engineering program at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center) won first place in the stability challenge. They built the best structure that held up against sustained wind power.
All members of the firstplace team from the Windstorm Challenge were awarded paid internships. The internships, valued at $20,000 each, is contingent upon students enrolling at the University of Maine.
Congratulations go to Duane Tardif, Arianna Malcolm, Nour Myers, Devin Greenman and Chrystal Inman.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
